Michelle Mills, 46, and her lover Geraint Berry, 47, were each sentenced to 19 years in prison for their involvement in a plan to target Mills’ husband in order to start a new life together.
The couple plotted to attack Christopher Mills on 20 September last year in Wales, UK, where Berry hired a third accomplice, Steven Thomas, to carry out the assault at a static caravan the couple shared.
The attackers were masked, carrying imitation guns and gas masks, along with pliers and cable ties in a backpack.
The victim sustained serious injuries but managed to fight off the attackers, who then fled, while Mills called emergency services reporting her husband had suffered a head injury, claiming she did not know the attackers’ identities.
The court revealed that Berry had been in a secret relationship with Michelle for about three months before the attack and shared his thoughts about targeting her husband.
At Swansea Crown Court, Judge Nicklin sentenced Michelle Mills and Geraint Berry to 19 years each for conspiracy to commit murder.
Mills also received an 18-month sentence for perverting the course of justice, and Berry the same term for possession of an imitation firearm.
Thomas, who played a secondary role, was sentenced to 12 months for possession of an imitation firearm.
The judge stated that text messages between Berry and Michelle, which she deleted, revealed the chilling reality of the plot, which was thwarted thanks to the victim’s courage and resistance.
He added that Michelle encouraged Berry to carry out the plan and exploited his anger toward her husband to achieve her goal.
The victim reported that the attack had changed his life, leaving him highly anxious and withdrawn.
