A woman residing in the northern Indian city of Noida filed a police complaint against her husband and four of his relatives, accusing them of deception over material information she claims was misleading before the marriage, including his appearance, education, and income.
Lavika Gupta, who lives in the Gaur City Avenue area, said she agreed to marry Sanyam Jain in 2024 after being presented with what she described as a carefully prepared but misleading personal profile. The couple were married on January 16, 2024.
Gupta stated in the first information report filed at the Bisrakh police station that her husband and his family concealed key facts about his personal circumstances, noting that she had been promised a man with thick, healthy hair, only to discover after the wedding that he is bald and wears a hairpiece to conceal it.
She added that she later learned her husband had only completed secondary education, despite documents provided to her indicating that he held a bachelor’s degree in commerce.
She said his declared income before the marriage of 1.8 million rupees per year (approximately 21,800 US dollars) was not accurate.
Gupta explained that these statements constituted deliberate deception intended to secure her consent to the marriage. She also accused her husband of physical abuse during an overseas trip and of pressuring her to smuggle illegal substances from Thailand to India, according to a police official familiar with the case.
A spokesperson for the Bisrakh police station confirmed the complaint had been registered and said the investigation is ongoing, and that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.
No arrests have been made so far, and the accused have not publicly responded to the allegations.
