Syrian artist Ahmed Mellali passed away this Sunday morning at the age of 77, following a sudden health crisis that required his transfer to the intensive care unit at the National Hospital in Damascus, according to a local newspaper.

His passing sparked grief among colleagues and fans, who paid tribute to him with heartfelt messages on social media, recalling his long career and significant contributions that left a clear mark on Syria’s artistic and dramatic scene.

Mellali was born in Damascus in 1949 and was married with four children.

He began his artistic career in the early 1970s, joined the Syrian Artists’ Syndicate in 1972, and since then participated in numerous theatrical, television, cinematic, and radio works, establishing a distinguished presence in the Syrian art scene.

He appeared in several notable plays, including Dhi Qar, Al-Nahb, Ta‘ala Nadhak, and Mahatat Mamnou‘a, and became known for his radio voice work, notably playing “Assistant Jamil” in the popular series Hukm al-Adala.

He also left his mark on cinema with films such as Al-Hudood alongside artist Duraid Lahham, highlighting a versatile talent that spanned decades across multiple artistic fields.
