A tragedy occurred in Suriname, South America, where 9 people lost their lives, including 5 children, during a knife attack in one of the suburbs of the capital, Paramaribo, according to the security authorities.

The police added that two other individuals were seriously injured and were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.

Shots fired at his legs When the security forces arrived at the scene, the attacker tried to assault them, which forced them to fire at his legs before they were able to detain him.

Authorities clarified that the attacker is currently receiving psychological treatment, while media reports stated that four of the victims were the man’s own children, and several neighbors were also harmed in the unfortunate incident.

The President of Suriname, Jennifer Simons, offered her condolences to the victims’ families, expressing her shock at the incident. She wrote on Facebook: “At a time when family members and friends are supposed to support and reassure each other, we are faced with the harsh reality that the world also has another face, where a father took the lives of his children and harmed his neighbors at the same time.”

Suriname is a small country in South America, located between Guyana and French Guiana along the Caribbean Sea, with a population of approximately 630,000 people.
