  • Widespread criticism over laundry tag containing phrase considered offensive to women
  • Company apologizes, clarifies the goal was to guide customers on proper washing

A Chinese men’s clothing company faced widespread criticism over a laundry instruction tag attached to one of its coats, which was described as discriminatory against women.

The tag, written in Chinese and English, included the phrase: “Please give it to your beloved woman, she knows everything,” and contained no actual washing instructions, only QR codes linking to the company’s social media accounts.

The company apologized for the incident, with spokesperson Sister Yang emphasizing that they did not intend to belittle women.

She added, “The improper phrasing and some English spelling errors caused the public to misunderstand that we despise women or aim to incite gender conflict, which was not our original intention.”

The company explained that the tag’s purpose was to guide customers on caring for clothes made from special materials, noting that some men are unaware of precise washing methods, while women often pay attention to these details.

The incident sparked wide debate on Chinese social media, with some users seeing the phrase as clear exploitation of women, while others argued that the tag was harmless and that the outrage was excessive.

This is not the first time laundry tags or promotional campaigns have sparked controversy; similar phrases such as “Give it to your mother to wash” or “Give it to your girl” have previously circulated.
