Vince Zampella, the creator of the popular video game "Call of Duty," died in a car crash in Southern California.
The accident occurred on the Angeles Crest Highway north of Los Angeles when his car veered off the road and hit a concrete barrier.
The vehicle caught fire, killing the driver at the scene, while one passenger later died in the hospital.
It is not yet clear whether Zampella was driving at the time, according to a local newspaper.
Zampella had three children with his ex-wife Brigitte, whom he divorced in 2015, leaving behind an estimated fortune of $40 million.
He served as CEO of Infinity Ward from 2002 to 2010, during which he created the famous "Call of Duty" game.
He began his career in the video game industry in the mid-1990s and was fired in 2010 along with partner Jason West for "breach of contract and insubordination," before filing a $125 million lawsuit and reaching an undisclosed settlement in 2013, in addition to earning millions in royalties.
In the same year, Zampella founded Respawn Entertainment under EA Games, which developed hit games such as "Titanfall" and "Apex Legends."
He was later appointed head of the "Battlefield" military game series, with its sixth installment becoming the best-selling game of the year after its release in October.
