The woman initially felt something slithering around her leg Her calm and stillness played a crucial role in saving her life

In a terrifying incident that nearly ended in tragedy, a woman in her forties was rushed to a hospital in southwest Sydney after facing a life-threatening situation during a walk in a bushland area, when a highly venomous eastern brown snake wrapped itself around her leg and became trapped in the loop of her sneaker.

The incident occurred near the Narrellan area while the woman was practicing geocaching, a recreational activity that involves searching for hidden treasures using GPS coordinates.

According to snake catcher Corey Kiryuaro from Reptile Relocation Sydney, the woman initially felt something sliding around her leg and assumed it was large leaves as she stepped out of a garden bed.

However, the sense of calm quickly turned into terror when she realized that what was wrapped around her leg was an eastern brown snake—one of the most dangerous snake species in Australia—which had tightly coiled around her leg before getting caught in the back loop of her shoe.

Kiryuaro explained that this species is responsible for the highest number of snakebite fatalities in the country, noting that its venom can be fatal in less than 15 minutes in some cases. He praised the woman’s composure and presence of mind, emphasizing that her remaining completely still played a decisive role in saving her life and preventing the snake from striking again.
