Who is Screenwriter Ahmed Abdullah?

Ahmed Abdullah was born in the Beit Al-Sarayat neighborhood in Cairo on April 1, 1965. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Cairo University, where his talent began to take shape. He wrote and adapted theatrical scripts from international works, presenting them in his own style on the university stage before turning professional after graduation.

He wrote notable plays such as “World of Cats”, “Al-Abnda”, and “Hakim Oyoun” before moving to cinema, where he achieved wider recognition. He was among the pioneers of social comedy in the early 2000s and wrote films that remain unforgettable in the public memory, including “Aboud on the Border”, “Ghabi Menno Feh”, “Yana Ya Khality”, and “Karkar”, all distinguished by his simultaneously witty and spontaneous style.

In 2008, a new chapter in his career began when he met the late director Samah Abdel Aziz. Together with producer Ahmed Al-Sobky, they formed a creative trio that produced works described as “the true face of Egyptian society”, including films like “Cabaret”, “Al-Farah”, and “Al-Layla Al-Kebira”, in addition to the realistic TV series “Al-Hara”. Ahmed Abdullah passed away a few months after his friend Samah Abdel Aziz.

Beyond cinema, Abdullah had a delicate poetic sensibility. He wrote numerous poems, some of which were published in a collection. He also wrote songs for his plays and a special song for the late singer Zekra, ensuring that his words continue to live on in the memory of Egyptian art.
