An online gaming session between two brothers in Malaysia ended in tragedy after a boy stabbed his younger brother to death following an argument during play.

Local media reported that the incident occurred in Johor state, where a minor disagreement between the children escalated into a severe altercation, culminating with the older brother using a sharp object against his 9-year-old sibling.

Local outlets added that the fight intensified in Johor, leading the older brother to stab his 9-year-old sibling.

Police stated that the accused lost control after an internet outage caused him to lose in the game, triggering his extreme anger.

Authorities noted that the boy admitted to spending long hours daily in front of the screen and hearing strange voices urging him to harm family members.

The incident sparked widespread outrage in Malaysia, prompting authorities to take swift action.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, said the game operator expressed willingness to cooperate with the government to enhance digital safety and protect children from excessive gaming.

Minister of Women and Family Affairs, Nancy Shukri, added that the government is considering imposing strict regulations on games that may negatively affect children and adolescents, noting that the game could be temporarily banned if proven harmful to their behavior.
