A tragic incident took place in the Shubra El-Kheima district of Egypt’s Qalyubia Governorate, where an unemployed young man was shot dead in the neck after verbally harassing a local girl.

Details of the incident

According to investigations, the girl informed her family about the verbal harassment she had been subjected to. One of her relatives, accompanied by his father, went to confront the young man about his behavior. The confrontation quickly escalated into a heated argument, then into a violent fight involving firearms and bladed weapons. During the altercation, one of the girl’s relatives fired a gunshot that struck the unemployed man in the neck, killing him instantly.

A video circulating on social media captured the moment the victim attacked one of the girl’s relatives with a stick, prompting the relative’s father to respond by firing a shotgun at him. The footage also showed the man collapsing to the ground immediately after being shot, while another relative fired a round into the air to disperse onlookers before both men fled the scene.

One passerby attempted to stop the bleeding by removing his shirt to help the victim, but the young man later died at the hospital from his injury.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Interior announced that, following legal procedures, two suspects — a fruit vendor and his father, both residing in the Qalyub district — had been arrested. Authorities also seized the shotgun used in the crime.

Legal measures have been taken in preparation for referring the defendants to the Public Prosecution.
