Egyptian actress Safia El Emari has denied recent reports claiming she has made a final decision to retire from acting, affirming that her absence from the artistic scene does not mean she has retired.

In a television interview on one of the programs, she said: “I have not retired from acting. An artist only retires when they die,” clarifying that she has recently turned down many roles due to the weak quality of the scripts offered to her.

El Emari added that some scripts are sent to her via WhatsApp, and scenes are sometimes written during filming—something she described as unacceptable. She continued: “I had no choice but to step back so as not to insult my artistic legacy.”

The Egyptian actress also revealed that she had been the victim of a fraud incident, where a man visited her claiming to carry a message from the late Islamic scholar Sheikh Mohammed Metwally El-Shaarawy, requesting a donation to treat a sick child. She added: “I later discovered the story was fabricated and that the man was a fraud.”

She noted that this incident actually led to her real-life meeting with Sheikh El-Shaarawy afterward.

A “Minor Misunderstanding” with the Late Mahmoud Abdel Aziz

Safia El Emari also addressed rumors of a dispute between her and the late actor Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, stressing that it was nothing more than a minor misunderstanding. She explained that she had initially agreed to participate in the TV series "Bab El-Khalq", starring Abdel Aziz, and had begun rehearsals. However, the director later informed her that some scenes would be removed due to time constraints, which prompted her to withdraw from the project.

She said: “I heard that Mahmoud felt a bit upset, but there was no conflict between us, and he was never angry with me.” She concluded: “He was a wonderful artist. May he rest in peace.”
