The late young man Raafat Waseem Awad continues to dominate the news in Jordan, as his childhood is being recalled—he was a singer on the children’s channel “Karameesh”—following a horrific accident in the capital, Amman.

The 19-year-old left life behind, leaving behind those who mourn him. Al-Hurriya Street in the Al-Muqabalin area of the capital witnessed the tragic incident on Tuesday, on the day of Arafah—on the eve of Eid Al-Adha—in a shocking scene that left a deep impact on Jordanian society, about a month after he obtained his driving license.

Relevant authorities rushed to the scene following a “violent” collision with a streetlight pole on the main road, where video footage showed the severe damage sustained by the vehicle.

The body of the deceased was transferred to Al-Bashir Government Hospital – the Forensic Medicine Center, while security forces launched an official investigation into the incident to determine the traffic causes that led to the vehicle overturning, as details remain under investigation.

“Death of my beloved son”

In a heartbreaking farewell, the father of the young man, Waseem Awad, mourned his son in emotional words on Facebook, saying: “To God we belong and to Him we shall return… My son and my heart’s beloved Raafat Awad has passed away in a tragic accident. We only say what pleases our Lord. Indeed, to God we belong and to Him we shall return.”

His passing shook his family and loved ones, amid a mix of shock and faith in God’s will and destiny. His simple daily life—his Eid clothes, his regular prayers, and the joyful moments he used to live—has now turned into painful memories after his departure.

His dreams, which began in childhood when he was a singer on “Karameesh,” and continued as a young man taking his first steps in life, were left unfinished. His sudden departure stopped a journey that had only just begun, leaving behind memories from childhood to youth.

His last post was a photo with his father at the driving center, celebrating receiving his driving license after hardship, writing: “Thank God, I finally passed and got my driving license after struggle.”
