In an ordinary moment during a demanding workday, no one could have predicted that a short break would become the beginning of a story that would spread widely and draw significant sympathy across social media platforms.

The young man seen in the clip was trying to catch his breath after long hours of labor in a painting job, visibly exhausted, though what lay behind the scene was a far deeper struggle than physical fatigue.

The story belongs to 18-year-old Egyptian Jalal Magdy El-Sayed from Kafr El-Sheikh, who began working at a very early age after suffering an eye injury at just 13 years old while still a child.

The injury caused damage to blood vessels inside the eye, launching a long journey of treatment and hospital visits across different cities, including Mansoura and Damietta, without reaching a definitive solution to fully restore his vision.

As his condition continued to worsen, doctors advised that a precise surgical procedure was the only viable option to stabilize his situation. However, its high cost—around 150,000 Egyptian pounds—placed it far beyond his family’s financial reach.

Faced with this reality, he left his village and moved to Cairo in search of work, taking on physically demanding jobs for long hours every day, with one goal in mind: to raise the cost of surgery and save his eyesight from further deterioration.

During one of his short breaks at work, he was casually filmed while eating a simple meal, unaware that this moment would later become an unexpected turning point in his life.

After the video spread online, public reaction grew rapidly, prompting officials and supporters to reach out and initiate urgent medical review of his case.

He was subsequently referred to a specialist hospital, where examinations were arranged in preparation for a state-funded operation, alongside a carefully designed treatment plan supervised by an eye surgery specialist team.

Between exhausting work and a newly emerging sense of hope, Jalal now stands before a different kind of opportunity—one that may restore what he was close to losing: his vision and a return to normal life.
