- Millions of WhatsApp Web users faced login issues
- The disruption mainly affected iPhone users after the latest iOS update
Millions of WhatsApp Web users reported on Friday that they were unable to access their accounts, according to numerous reports on social media and outage-monitoring platform Downdetector.
The problem, which peaked around mid-morning, centered on the “Linked Devices” feature. Of those reporting issues, 56% cited problems with the website interface, 39% with the desktop app, and 6% experienced delays in messaging services.
Initial tests indicate that the glitch almost exclusively affects iPhone users trying to link WhatsApp Web, with error messages like “Couldn’t link device” or endless loading screens appearing after scanning the QR code.
Android users, by contrast, seem to be using the service normally without noticeable interruptions.
Frustrated users shared screenshots on X showing the “Loading your chats” screen stuck indefinitely, while some analysts suggested a possible synchronization bug in the latest iOS update.
Experts strongly advise users not to log out of existing desktop sessions, as re-linking may be impossible until the issue is fixed on the server side.
