An 82-year-old German man died after being crushed inside a car at a Munich scrapyard, police reported.

Authorities explained that the vehicle was scheduled for dismantling, and the man likely entered it unnoticed.

The accident occurred on Wednesday in the Obersendling district and was only recently made public.

Police said the incident happened while an employee was operating heavy machinery designed to crush old cars.

The worker used a crane to flatten the car’s roof and then tipped it onto its side. At that moment, a witness noticed someone inside the vehicle, resulting in fatal injuries when the roof was crushed.

Emergency teams, including firefighters, paramedics, and police, were called to the scene. Firefighters had to use specialized equipment to recover the man’s body from the car.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the car did not belong to the victim and said it is believed he was at the site to collect scrap metal.

Munich traffic police have opened a full investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
