The incident occurred at a yacht marina in the city, where the mother, Sefda (30 years old), went with her son, Mohammed Boran, to the location in the afternoon of the incident. According to Turkish media, the mother pushed her child into the sea first, then jumped after him in an attempt to end her life.

Reports indicated that the mother returned home barefoot with wet clothes, raising her brother’s suspicions, who was searching for her, before the child’s disappearance was discovered and his body found.
