The police on Wednesday arrested a man accused of repeatedly firing pellets from an air rifle at a kindergarten in the Wenshan area of the capital, Taipei, after a court ruling, according to the Taiwanese Central News Agency (CNA).
Police said in a statement on Tuesday that the suspect, surnamed Huang, who lives near the kindergarten, began targeting the building in late January, claiming he was annoyed by the noise made by the children.
The statement added that Huang initially fired at the kindergarten’s exterior walls, and the incidents went unnoticed at first, until staff at the kindergarten discovered shattered windows and damaged water pipes, prompting them to report the incident on January 21.
Identifying the suspect
After reviewing surveillance camera footage and collecting other evidence, police identified Huang as the main suspect and raided his home last week, where they seized three air rifles, two bottles of pellets, a box of BB shots, a mobile phone, and a tablet.
Huang told police that he resorted to shooting because of ongoing disputes with the kindergarten’s management over the noise, after a complaint he had filed with the relevant authorities failed to resolve the problem.
