Snapchat launched a new feature called "Arrival Notifications," aimed at enhancing safety and making coordination easier by automatically sending alerts to trusted friends when a user reaches a pre-selected destination.
The feature expands last year’s "Home Safe" option, allowing notifications for any location, from campus buildings to weekly activities, eliminating the need to send a manual "I’ve arrived" message.
"Arrival Notifications" let users set one-time or recurring alerts tied to a specific spot on Snap Map.
For example, it can notify a friend upon returning to the hotel in the evening.
One-time alerts disappear after being triggered or after 24 hours if the user doesn’t arrive, while recurring alerts follow the schedule set by the user, useful for daily routines like classes, training sessions, or variable work shifts.
Crucially, alerts only reach people the user already shares their location with on Snapchat; nothing is public.
The feature provides quick peace of mind without needing to open chats or remember to tap a button after commuting or going out.
Snapchat integrated this feature within its existing privacy framework, including per-friend controls, Ghost Mode, and granular location sharing.
Event-based alerts offer a middle ground for privacy-conscious users: a single notification upon arrival, without continuous tracking, aligning with digital safety experts’ guidance favoring limited, context-specific sharing over constant monitoring.
