A Chinese nurse was suspended from work after allowing her fiancé to accompany her during night shifts and sharing photos showing his assistance with her hospital duties.

Local media reported that the nurse, who works in Qingdao, Shandong province in eastern China, posted a video on social media on January 2 to showcase her fiancé’s support.

In the video, which sparked widespread controversy, the nurse said, “Me and my night-shift buddy,” adding that her fiancé works during the day and often accompanies her in the evenings.

The footage showed the man helping her write patient reports, using the computer at the nurses’ station, preparing medications, and labeling intravenous bottles. He appeared in different outfits across multiple clips, indicating repeated presence at the hospital.

The video triggered major online outrage. One user commented, “They are not taking patients’ lives seriously. What if he mislabels something? Who will be responsible?” Another said, “It’s foolish to let him perform such critical tasks. Does she have any professional conscience?” A third urged contacting the hospital and health authorities to report the incident.

A hospital spokesperson said, “We saw the video. There is something wrong with her behavior. This is not a small matter, and we will handle it seriously.”

The Qingdao Municipal Health Commission announced the nurse’s suspension for “violating work discipline,” citing public pressure, and emphasized the need to adhere to basic medical safety standards, protect patient health, and strictly punish any violations.
