Separate Avalanches in the French Alps Leave Skiers Dead – Skiers Were Off the Official Slopes

Three skiers were killed on Sunday in three separate avalanches in the French Alps, according to the management of the La Plagne Ski Resort, just one day after three other skiers died in similar accidents on Saturday.

Authorities confirmed that all the skiers perished despite warnings from the meteorological agency about the increased risk of avalanches and the dangers of skiing off the designated slopes.

In Sunday’s incident, a British skier, approximately 50 years old, was buried by snow while skiing off the marked trails, according to a statement from the resort in southeastern France. More than 50 rescue personnel were deployed to search for him, and he was found about an hour later buried under 2.5 meters of snow, but he did not survive.

The resort also announced the recovery of another skier’s body in the Courchevel area, without providing further details about the identity or circumstances of the incident.

In a third incident, police reported the death of a 32-year-old skier due to an avalanche in Val Thorens, within the Haute-Savoie area of the Alps.

On Saturday, two separate avalanches claimed the lives of three other skiers who were skiing off the official trails.

Weather experts had warned of the risk of avalanches over the weekend, and authorities in the Savoie region recorded at least six avalanches in ski areas on Sunday morning.
