  • Clooney and his family officially obtain French citizenship
  • The family chooses France to protect their children from paparazzi

World-famous actor George Clooney, his wife Amal, and their twin children have obtained French citizenship, according to a decree published in the official government gazette.

This achievement confirms Clooney’s wish, which he mentioned in early December, when he praised French privacy laws that protect his family from paparazzi.

Clooney said, “I love French culture and your language, even though I’m still bad at it after 400 days of lessons.”

He added, “Here, no photos are taken of children, and there are no paparazzi hiding at school gates. That’s the most important thing for us.”

Clooney is known for his long-standing attachment to Europe, which predates his 2014 marriage to Amal, the British-Lebanese human rights lawyer who speaks French fluently.

Clooney owns a property in Italy’s Lake Como region since 2002, and with his wife, he bought a historic manor in England, as well as a property in southern France near the village of Brignoles in 2021.

They also own an apartment in New York and a property in Kentucky, while selling homes in Los Angeles and Mexico over the past decade.

Clooney explained that their home in France is where they feel the happiest, despite frequent travel.

It is noted that Clooney has won two Oscars, one as Best Supporting Actor for the film Syriana (2006) and the other as a producer for Argo (2012).
