Tactical Discipline and Quick Reaction
The Jordanian national handball team, The Nashama, demonstrated a rising trajectory in their technical level and physical readiness after securing a valuable moral and technical victory over Egypt Air, with a score of 25-18, in a friendly match held Thursday evening in Cairo. This encounter was part of the training camp the team is holding in preparation for the major continental competition.
The match highlighted remarkable tactical maturity for coach Montenegrin Zoran Kastratović’s squad. The team imposed its rhythm from the very first minutes through a solid man-to-man defense and swift fast breaks, executed with speed and precision to finish attacks effectively.
This positive outcome came as a direct and immediate response to the narrow loss the team suffered the day before against the Egyptian youth team (African champions) by a single goal, 24-23, in a match that remained competitive until the final seconds.
Cairo: A Sharpening Stage Before “Kuwait 2026”
The coaching staff is racing against time to make the most of every minute in the Cairo camp, aiming to finalize preparations before heading to Kuwait for the 22nd Asian Championship, scheduled from January 14 to 29.
Coach Zoran and his assistant, Mohamed Taha, are focusing on enhancing cohesion between professional players and local talents, especially with key names such as Mohamed Odeh, a professional in the Cypriot league, alongside a selection of top domestic club players. The goal is not only participation but to compete strongly in the “Group of Death” (Group 2), which includes Jordan, Iraq, Bahrain, and China, with the aim of securing one of the qualifying spots for the World Championship.
Administrative Support and Future Ambitions
The team also enjoys close administrative supervision from the delegation head and Jordan Handball Federation board member, Eyad Al-Saeedi, who emphasized that arranging these high-level matches against advanced Egyptian teams is part of the federation’s strategy to elevate Jordanian handball. Since Egyptian handball schools are currently ranked among the best globally, competing against them gives Jordanian players the confidence and ability to cope with the high physical demands expected in the Asian Championship.
