Victoria Hopkins had spent the day in the hospital with her father when she received a call that turned her life upside down.
She was informed that her son, Morgan (18), had been stabbed by a stranger in the same hospital ward she had just left.
The attack occurred in the early hours of 22 June 2025, while Morgan was out with his girlfriend, resulting in nerve damage and intestinal injuries that required a 10-hour surgery.
Cain Evans (20 at the time of the attack) was convicted in Swansea court on Friday and sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison.
The assault followed a previous altercation involving Evans and other individuals outside a club in Gorseinon. Morgan had tried to intervene to calm the situation but was stabbed.
The court described the attack as “brutal and deliberate”.
Despite the severe injuries, Morgan was able to cope with his condition and replace his rugby ball with training, which brought joy to his mother this season.
Victoria added that she was grateful her son is alive this holiday, noting that the attack had also destroyed the life of the perpetrator, and expressed sympathy for Evans’ family.
Evans was sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison, in addition to five years of probation following his release.
