The U.S. police said a 15-year-old boy is accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend’s mother and her two siblings inside a home in western Texas.
The Odessa Police Department clarified that authorities responded to a report of a shooting in an apartment.
The officers who arrived first found three victims inside the home.
The suspect fled the scene, but his location was determined about 40 minutes later, according to Police Chief Mike Jirky, speaking to local media.
Jirky added that the incident was intentional and targeted the three victims.
Investigations revealed that the boy had planned to shoot his ex-girlfriend outside the school, but he changed his plan and went to her home instead.
He shot the mother, Jessica Rodriguez (39), and her two children (9 and 13), according to the police.
Jirky described the incident at a press conference as “a violent, tragic, and cowardly act.”
He declined to disclose whether the 15-year-old ex-girlfriend was at the home at the time, but confirmed that she had not suffered any physical harm.
He said: “She is fine, not injured… certainly after what happened to her family, her mental state is not well, but she did not suffer any physical harm.”
