- French police raid Elon Musk’s X offices in expanded probe
- Musk and Yaccarino summoned for April hearings
Cybercrime units, assisted by Europol, raided the offices of Elon Musk’s social media platform X in France.
The Paris prosecutor said the raid was part of an investigation into content recommended by the platform’s algorithm, which was later expanded to include the controversial AI chatbot Grok.
The prosecutor added that Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino had been summoned to attend hearings in April as part of the investigation.
The prosecutor’s office previously described the investigation as not targeting free speech, but rather ensuring the platform’s compliance with French law.
The X investigation began in January 2025 and was expanded in July of the same year.
At the time, the platform described the expansion as “politically motivated” and denied any manipulation of its recommendation algorithms.
The prosecutor confirmed the probe covers multiple areas, including whether the platform was involved in distributing or possessing inappropriate content involving minors or organizing such content.
The office also stated it will officially stop using X and will communicate via other platforms like LinkedIn and Instagram from now on.
Musk’s platform recently faced intense scrutiny after inappropriate content was generated and edited using the AI tool Grok, prompting wide criticism from victims, online safety activists, and politicians.
The company later intervened to prevent the practice from continuing.
In late January, the European Commission announced an investigation into the parent company xAI over concerns about content published on the platform.
