A 20-year-old nursing student was arrested for allegedly killing his one-month-old daughter and hiding her body inside a bag in a boarding house in Barangay Cugman, local police confirmed Tuesday.
The child’s mother sought help from authorities after losing contact with the suspect, leading to his immediate detention.
Investigators revealed that the suspect had taken the baby from her mother in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, claiming he intended to introduce her to his parents, but instead brought her to his rented room in Cagayan de Oro.
The infant’s body was discovered in the room after the mother alerted police, and initial findings suggest she died from suffocation inside the bag.
During initial questioning, the suspect gave conflicting statements, first claiming the baby had fallen, later saying he accidentally sat on her, and finally admitting to the killing, citing loss of control.
The suspect remains in police custody, and Philippine law imposes life imprisonment for parricide.
Authorities are finalizing the criminal complaint to be filed with the prosecutor’s office.
