Landslide Occurs in Mountain Pass Connecting Imlil Village and Toubkal Peak "The mission was difficult due to severe weather conditions"

The Moroccan Armed Forces discovered on Wednesday evening the bodies of three people who had been trapped following a snow avalanche that occurred last Sunday on Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa, with an elevation exceeding 4,100 meters.

The Armed Forces stated on their official Facebook page that the avalanche took place in a mountain pass connecting Imlil village and Toubkal Peak in the Al-Haouz region, which led to the victims being trapped under extremely harsh weather conditions.

The statement added that the search teams, after opening the paths leading to the site of the incident, were able to locate the missing individuals and recover all their bodies, confirming the difficulty of the mission due to the severe weather fluctuations.

According to the Moroccan News Agency, the victims were part of a tourist group accompanied by guides, who left a tourist lodge on Mount Toubkal on Sunday morning heading towards the mountainous village of Imlil at an elevation of over 1,700 meters. The rest of the group managed to survive and return safely to the lodge.

The Moroccan Directorate of Meteorology had issued warnings before the incident, on Saturday, regarding snowfall ranging between 50 and 90 centimeters in three regions, including the Al-Haouz region, until Tuesday, reflecting the severity of the weather conditions in the area.
