  • Huang works as the only delivery rider serving a remote county in Tibet
  • Delivers up to 200 orders daily while overseeing the station and local operations

Huang Kaihong, 24, serves as a delivery rider in Medog County, China, once the last place in the country to be connected by roads.

Known as “China’s loneliest rider,” Huang is the only full-time delivery rider in the county.

Medog, at the foothills of the Himalayas, has fewer than 15,000 residents, and Huang serves as a lifeline for the local community, connecting residents to daily necessities.

In an interview, Huang revealed he was born in Sichuan Province in southwest China and has always been captivated by Tibet’s stunning landscapes.

Wearing an orange uniform and riding his motorcycle, Huang delivers up to 200 orders daily, while reports show that delivery riders in China’s major cities typically handle only 40 to 60 orders per day, earning 4 to 8 yuan (60 cents to 1 USD) per order.

Huang said the long rainy season and rough mountain roads often cause slips, making vehicle maintenance time-consuming and costly. Nevertheless, he enjoys his work and describes it as a source of freedom.

“I enjoy the wind on the road, and the money I earn from each order keeps me grounded,” he said.

In his free time, Huang explores the surrounding scenery, visiting waterfalls and snow-capped mountains on his motorcycle.

He has grown accustomed to solitude, describing it as “something I was born with.”

Due to the small scale of operations, Huang not only delivers orders but also manages the delivery station, coordinates business activities, and sometimes mediates local disputes, without disclosing his monthly income.

He has become a well-known figure among food vendors in Medog, and a new part-time rider recently joined to assist him.

When alone, he often calls his grandmother in his hometown.

Huang stated that once he saves enough money, he plans to move to Dali in Yunnan Province, known for its year-round springlike climate.

His story and related posts have garnered over two million views on social media in China.
