The U.S. police announced charges against a woman following the discovery of her infant's remains in Illinois in 2020.
The case came after a five-year investigation.
Authorities said Natalie E. Schram, 40, was arrested in Washington under an arrest warrant and faced multiple felony charges, including two counts of concealment of death, abuse of a corpse, and failure to report the death or disappearance of a child under 13.
Riverwoods police stated the investigation began on May 5, 2020, after a report of human remains found in a wooded area on Robinwood Lane, later confirmed to belong to a newborn.
Investigators identified Schram as the mother of the infant.
She was taken to Whatcom County Jail in Washington and released the next day on a $250,000 cash bond after agreeing to waive extradition and to appear at the Lake County Courthouse in Illinois on December 11.
Authorities confirmed the investigation is ongoing.
