A man has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of killing his wife’s grandmother, who passed away six months after a “brutal” stabbing attack.

According to police, June Henty was found at her home in Wickham, Hampshire, on 23 December 2023 with more than 100 wounds and identified 39-year-old Adam Wright as her attacker.

The victim died in hospital on 14 June 2024 at the age of 78 from her injuries.

Portsmouth Crown Court sentenced Wright, of Grovers Field, Bishop’s Waltham, to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 24 years.

Police said Henty was treated in hospital for bleeding in the head and neck and brain damage, while a pathologist’s report indicated she died from the delayed effects of multiple sharp force injuries.

Desmond Duffy from the Crown Prosecution Service described the crime as “a truly horrific and senseless act of violence against a much-loved family member,” adding that the perpetrator’s drug use the previous night “in no way justifies the level of anger and violence inflicted on the victim.”

In a statement, Henty’s family said: “Our beautiful mother was brutally taken from us, and as a family we are heartbroken. She was a kind and loving woman who always put her family first.”
