The Kuwait national football team officially secured its place in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, after overcoming Mauritania with a 2-0 victory in the first match of the qualifying playoff.

Kuwait’s qualification completes Group C in the tournament, previously described as a “fiery group,” where the Jordanian national team, “Al-Nashama,” will face another Arab team with a notable history in the competition.

Daham brace seals qualification

The match took place on Tuesday evening at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar, as part of the playoff where seven teams qualify for the tournament scheduled from December 1 to 18.

Kuwait dominated early and effectively decided the match in the first half thanks to the brilliance of striker Mohammed Daham, who scored both goals:

First goal: Came early in the 8th minute with a header by Daham near the goal line. Second goal: Daham added his second and Kuwait’s second in the 24th minute, after an easy cross into the net, effectively ending the contest in the first half.

Despite Mauritania’s attempts to come back in the second half, which included a disallowed goal in the 56th minute due to a foul, the score remained 2-0 until the final whistle.

Jordan group complete, competition heats up

With this victory, Kuwait advances to Group C, completing the group alongside Jordan, Egypt, and UAE.

The Jordanian national team is scheduled to face Kuwait in the second round of the group stage.
