  • Her appearance in Marilyn Monroe’s dress sparked widespread controversy

Reality star Kim Kardashian revealed her regret over her controversial 2022 Met Gala appearance.

Kardashian wore Marilyn Monroe’s iconic "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" dress from the archives for the star-studded event, and the look remains widely discussed more than three years later, though she clarified that her regret is not about the dress itself.

She said she wishes she had paired the crystal-covered sheer gown with a different hairstyle.

Specifically, she regretted choosing the ultra-blonde look to fully emulate Marilyn Monroe, noting that she felt afterward her dark hair would have been better suited for this historic red carpet moment.

Kardashian said, "I will talk about this forever. I don’t know why, but everyone told me, 'Don’t do Marilyn hair. You’re going to look like a wax figure of her.' We just thought we wanted to be blonde."

She explained that she would have preferred to channel a different historical figure, the president’s wife whom Monroe serenaded: Jackie Kennedy.

She also revealed that she has "tormented" her hairstylist, Chris Appleton, over this decision ever since.

The dress, designed by Jean Louis, originally cost $12,000 and was so tight that Marilyn Monroe had to be sewn into it before performing her famous song for President John F. Kennedy on May 19, 1962.

A company later purchased the vintage gown at auction in November 2016 for $4.81 million, making it one of the most expensive dresses in the world.

When Kardashian wore it at the 2022 gala, she faced intense criticism for "putting a historic piece at risk" and for the strenuous effort she underwent to fit into it, losing about 7.3 kilograms in three weeks while following a strict diet.
