WhatsApp blocks several features on its platform
WhatsApp
  • WhatsApp to block non-Meta AI chats
  • ChatGPT and Copilot chats to end permanently on the platform

WhatsApp has announced that it will soon block all AI chatbots not developed by Meta, including popular services like ChatGPT and Copilot, ahead of a new policy set for 2026.

This update will take effect on January 15, 2026, following revisions to the platform’s terms of service, which will prevent users and businesses from accessing external AI tools.

Both OpenAI and Microsoft have already confirmed that they will remove their chatbot integrations from WhatsApp before the new rules come into effect.

The two companies stated they are complying with WhatsApp’s updated Business Solution terms, which require AI providers to leave the platform once the policy is enforced.

Users relying on ChatGPT through WhatsApp can still link their accounts before the cutoff to retain access to their conversations after the service ends, while Microsoft confirmed that Copilot users will have no way to transfer their chat history.
