Sussex Police in the UK have released a disturbing video showing a 67-year-old man confessing to killing a young couple in their home in Newhaven

The footage also includes CCTV showing the man taking the couple’s children to two restaurants after committing the crime

In the clip, recorded at Brighton Police Station in June 2023, Derek Martin tells officers, “I’ve killed two people. There are two people dead

The victims, Chloe and Josh Bashford, aged 30 and 33, lived with their four children

During the trial, Martin admitted causing their deaths but claimed diminished responsibility due to depression. A jury rejected this defense and convicted him of two counts of murder

Police stated that Martin attacked Chloe with a hammer and knife following an argument over money while cleaning windows at the family home

When Josh returned and discovered the scene, Martin chased, stabbed, and strangled him to death

Before turning himself in, Martin changed his clothes, collected the couple’s four children from school, and took them to two restaurants in Newhaven

During this time, he discarded Chloe’s mobile phone in bushes near a Sainsbury’s store

Police added: “The court was informed that Martin and Chloe had become close a few years ago. Martin was known to Chloe because he had previously been married to her mother, but they divorced several years before Chloe was born
