In a crime that shocked Iraq, the southern province of Al-Diwaniyah awoke on Tuesday to a horrifying family massacre, as a woman brutally killed her husband’s parents and sister using a knife — a shocking incident that sparked widespread anger and sorrow.

According to an official statement issued by the Al-Diwaniyah Police Command, security forces managed to arrest the perpetrator less than an hour after the crime was committed, following a precise operation based on accurate intelligence that led to locating her and raiding the house where the incident took place.

Multiple stab wounds

Police clarified that the crime occurred inside the husband’s family home, where the victims were found dead after sustaining stab wounds to various parts of their bodies. The suspect confessed immediately after her arrest, admitting she committed the act due to “previous family disputes,” according to preliminary investigations.

The statement added that the relevant authorities have completed the on-site investigation, and the suspect’s statements have been officially recorded in preparation for referring her to the judiciary to face appropriate legal punishment.
