Multiple prototypes are currently being tested ahead of a new consumer product launch

Shift toward a simpler design focused on everyday use rather than complex reality technologies

Apple continues to develop its smart glasses project, with reports indicating that the company is currently testing four different designs as it prepares for the first commercial release in 2027, with a possible early unveiling by the end of this year, according to a report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.

According to the report, the tested designs include a range of frames such as a wide rectangular shape, a slimmer rectangular version similar to the glasses worn by CEO Tim Cook, as well as a larger oval or round design, and a smaller, more minimal variant. The company is also considering multiple color options including black, ocean blue, and light brown.

The report suggests this move reflects a shift in Apple’s strategy compared to its earlier ambitions in the augmented and mixed reality market, which have faced repeated delays and limited traction with the Vision Pro headset.

The new glasses appear closer in concept to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. They will not feature displays, but are expected to allow users to take photos and videos via built-in cameras, make phone calls, play music, and interact with an upgraded version of Apple’s voice assistant, Siri.

Through this product, Apple aims to enter the wearable tech market in a more practical and simplified form, focusing on everyday functionality rather than complex augmented reality experiences.
