- Hassan Shakoush Sparks Outrage Over Comments on “Bus Girl” Harassment Case
A video shared by Egyptian singer Hassan Shakoush caused anger on social media after he accused Maryam Shawqi, the victim of the bus harassment incident, of trying to attract male attention with her accessories.
Shakoush appeared in a live broadcast on social media to express his opinion on Shawqi’s appearance, criticizing her style and describing the accused young man as “very respectable.”
He also suggested that her behavior indicated ulterior motives and questioned her account of the incident.
He said: “You’re the one wearing them, it’s very clear what you want.”
Shawqi had explained that the incident began while she was walking, when someone tried to harass her. Despite her initial polite attempts to respond, the situation escalated when she confronted him loudly, and he then threw stones at her.
She later decided to change her route to protect herself, but discovered that the attacker continued to follow her even onto the bus.
The video sparked widespread anger across social media, while some defended Shakoush, arguing that no official charges had been proven against him.
Shakoush’s lawyer noted that the preliminary investigation had not confirmed the incident.
