A tragic incident has stirred widespread outrage on social media in recent hours, amid anger over what was described as a “beyond reason” act, following a shocking family massacre in Karmouz, west of Alexandria, where residents remain in deep shock, with terrifying questions surrounding what happened.

In an incident that shook public opinion in Egypt, a young man killed his entire family—his mother and 5 siblings—before attempting to end his own life. However, neighbors intervened and prevented him at the last moment.

Investigations revealed that the crime resulted from a shocking agreement between the young man and his mother after their living conditions deteriorated and the mother fell into severe psychological distress. She feared leaving her children without support, especially as she suffered from a serious illness. She had previously separated from her husband, who stopped providing financial support and remarried, worsening their suffering and pushing her into a “dead end,” leading her to think in a “dark” way to try to end their suffering, according to Egyptian media reports.

“Razor blades”

According to confessions, the tragedy began after convincing the children to end their lives, using razor blades to cut veins and inflict fatal injuries, which led to the death of 3 of the youngest children, aged between 8 and 12.

Harsh endings

Later, the young man completed the crime with his mother’s help, killing 2 more siblings—one by slaughter using a blade, and the other by suffocation—before killing his own mother at her request.

This horrific crime took place over 2 days (27 and 28 of Ramadan), after which the young man attempted to take his own life over 4 consecutive days but failed. He then tried to jump from the apartment balcony, but neighbors managed to save him.

Witnesses also revealed that the mother had hinted days earlier at her intention to end her life and her children’s lives due to severe financial hardship.

In developments, authorities ordered the suspect to be detained for 4 days pending investigation and subjected him to various examinations, while the details of this horrific crime continue to unfold amid widespread shock and anger.
