Turkish police arrested a young man in the central province of Kayseri after he allegedly broke into a jewellery shop using a stolen forklift and attempted to escape on a donkey, in a bizarre incident that surprised authorities.

Security sources said the suspect used the forklift to smash the store’s front and enter, before taking gold items and fleeing the scene.

A large-scale search operation by police led to his arrest nearby, following an unusual getaway attempt described by officials as involving a donkey.

Police confirmed that roughly 150 grams of the stolen gold were recovered and returned to the shop owner, while investigations continue ahead of formal charges by the public prosecutor.
