Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has officially confirmed that a sequel to the hit film F1, starring Brad Pitt, is in development.
The film, co-produced by seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, is this year’s nominee for four Oscars, including Best Picture.
Pitt, 62, reprises his role as veteran driver Sonny Hayes, returning to the Formula 1 circuit with the fictional team APXGP after a long hiatus.
Rumors about a sequel have been circulating for months, but the confirmation comes only now.
Although Bruckheimer did not announce a production start date or full casting details, he confirmed he will “of course” be involved in selecting the actors.
Released last summer, F1 grossed $630 million globally, with filming taking place across the 2023 and 2024 Formula 1 seasons, including the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Bruckheimer expressed his surprise and delight over the film’s recognition, particularly its Best Picture nomination, adding that working with Brad Pitt was an exciting first-time experience.
He noted that the annual luncheon was a great opportunity to share memories with longtime collaborators.
“We have many projects in preparation, and we’re just waiting for one of them to get a great script so it can move into production,” he said.
