  • Breaking the release clause with Al-Karma

Negotiations between Jordanian international striker Ali Alwan and Saudi club Al-Riyadh have reached an advanced stage, with the "Nashama" star on the verge of officially signing to join the team during the current winter transfer window.

According to media sources, Al-Riyadh’s management has reached an agreement with their counterparts at Iraqi club Al-Karma to secure Alwan’s services by activating the release clause in his contract, valued at around half a million dollars.

This amount had been the only obstacle delaying the deal in recent days, before Al-Riyadh’s management demonstrated full commitment to strengthening their attacking line.

Arab top scorer sought to rescue Al-Riyadh

Al-Riyadh’s strong desire to sign Alwan comes after his impressive recent performances, including finishing as the top scorer of the 2025 Arab Cup with six goals, making him highly sought after by Saudi clubs, with Damak also competing strongly for his signature.

Through this deal, Al-Riyadh hopes to improve their difficult situation in the Saudi Roshn League, as the team currently faces relegation, sitting in 16th place with only 9 points from 14 matches, and they hope Alwan can provide the attacking boost needed to improve results.

Contract details and departure from Iraq

Regarding the contract, sources indicate minor differences are still being negotiated; Al-Riyadh wants to sign Alwan for a season and a half, while the player prefers a half-season contract with an extension option, to maintain greater flexibility for his professional future.

Alwan’s departure from the Iraqi league aligns with a broader trend among Jordanian national team stars, who increasingly prefer destinations offering technical stability and scheduling compatible with their historic preparations for the 2026 World Cup finals.
