After the goal, the Jordanian team tried to reorganize its lines and press in midfield, managing to control certain periods without turning it into clear scoring opportunities.
Vietnam and Jordan’s under-23 teams kicked off their participation in the 2026 AFC U-23 Asian Cup, with their opening group-stage match ending in a 2-0 victory for Vietnam.
The opening minutes of the match were balanced, with both teams exchanging possession and building attacks, before a penalty was awarded to Vietnam in the 12th minute after a review by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for a handball inside the Jordanian penalty area. Nguyen Dinh Bac stepped up to take the kick, scoring the first goal in the 15th minute.
After the goal, Jordan tried to reorganize and press in midfield, managing to dominate at times but failing to create clear chances, due to Vietnam’s solid defensive positioning and Jordan’s reliance on long balls.
Just before the end of the first half, Vietnam continued to threaten from set-pieces and added a second goal in the 42nd minute through defender Nguyen Huu Minh, who converted a rebound inside the penalty area.
In the second half, Jordan adopted a more attacking approach, with the coaching staff making several substitutions to strengthen the offensive side, resulting in continuous pressure on Vietnam’s goal, especially during the final minutes. Jordan threatened on multiple occasions, most notably Mahmoud Kharouba’s shot that went wide and Hashem Al-Mubidin’s header from a corner that went over the crossbar.
Meanwhile, Vietnam relied on defensive organization and good spacing, making several substitutions to maintain physical balance and successfully limiting Jordan’s attacking threat until the final whistle.
