  • Liang Chi Bin rescued Liu Shimi from a devastating earthquake
  • They met again 12 years later and got married

A Chinese woman was suddenly reunited with the man who saved her from beneath the rubble of an earthquake more than a decade ago, when she was eleven years old, and she has now married him.

The story emerged in Hunan province, southern China, during the fifth annual mass wedding, which included 37 couples.

The couple, Liang Chi Bin, who is 12 years older than his wife Liu Shimi, shared a love story that began more than 15 years ago.

In 2008, during the devastating Wenchuan earthquake, Liang, then a soldier, was assigned to rescue efforts.

He saved a 10-year-old girl named Liu, who was trapped on the second floor of a collapsed building under metal rods and bricks.

Liang and his team continued digging for four hours before they were able to pull Liu out and take her to the hospital.

After her recovery, Liu and her family returned to Chuzhou in Hunan province.

She said, "For many years, I could not remember his features. All I had in mind was a vague image of someone."

The turning point came in 2020, when Liu, aged 22, was having dinner with her parents in a restaurant in Changsha.

Her mother suddenly noticed a man sitting at the next table and said, "He looks exactly like the soldier who saved you back then."

Liu approached the man and greeted him, saying, "Brother Liang? Is that you?"

Liang said, "You’ve changed so much, I didn’t recognize you at all."

That night, Liu took his phone number and was the first to reach out, sharing moments of her day and gradually building a connection with him.

Over time, Liu realized the depth of her feelings for him.

She was moved by Liang’s persistence and loyalty, and eventually gathered the courage to confess her love first.

Liang gradually recognized her devotion and liveliness, saying, "At that time, saving people was my duty, but now I truly love her, and those are two very different things."

He added, "Fate is truly amazing. Twelve years ago I saved her, and twelve years later, she became the light of my life."

Social media users across China reacted warmly, expressing their good wishes for the couple.
