The German national football team has climbed to fourth place among European teams with the most wins in World Cup qualifying history.

This milestone came after the “Mannschaft” secured a commanding victory over Slovakia yesterday evening, concluding their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The triumph underscores Germany’s status as a consistent powerhouse in continental qualifiers, despite years when they bypassed this stage.

The win against Slovakia raised Germany’s total to 88 victories out of 110 qualifying matches played.

With this tally, Germany surpassed two strong European sides—Belgium and Portugal—who now share fifth and sixth place with 87 wins each, giving Germany a one-win advantage.

This success highlights the strength and enduring impact of German football over the years.

However, Germany still trails slightly behind the top three teams on the list.

They are six wins behind the Netherlands, who lead with 94 victories, four wins behind England in second place with 92, and two wins behind Spain in third with 90.

The narrow gap suggests Germany will remain a strong contender for top spots in upcoming qualifying campaigns, especially given the increasing number of matches in expanded tournaments.

It’s important to note that Germany’s fourth-place ranking is not due to fewer victories but rather historical factors. The team skipped the qualifiers in five World Cup editions, qualifying automatically either as hosts or defending champions.

This reduced the total matches they played compared to the Netherlands and England, yet their rise to fourth confirms that Germany’s winning rate remains among the best in Europe.
