Chinese woman floods hotel room after her request was denied

- She paid nearly 280 times the original booking price in compensation
- Severe damage to walls and floors due to flooding
A woman flooded a hotel room in Hainan Province, China, after the hotel management refused her request to cancel the reservation
She had booked the room for one night at 108 yuan (about $15), but wanted to cancel. The hotel refused, citing their no-cancellation policy after check-in
The woman claimed the room was of poor quality and lacked proper soundproofing
The hotel offered her a free upgrade, which she refused, prompting the staff to call the police
In a fit of rage, she turned on the bathroom taps, flooding the room and causing severe damage to the walls and floors
While waiting for the police, she threw the bedding into the bathroom and poured shower gel on it after turning on the sink and shower taps
The taps remained on for about 3–4 hours, and water leaked from her second-floor room
After investigation, the woman agreed to compensate the hotel for the damages, paying around 30,000 yuan (about $4,200), roughly 280 times the original room rate
The incident quickly went viral on Chinese social media. One user wrote: "She ended up paying nearly 300 times the room price she tried to avoid
Another added: Anger can cause disastrous consequences if left unchecked. The law can serve as a good restraint
