The Egyptian Musicians’ Syndicate has witnessed a tense and highly charged atmosphere in recent hours, following an expanded meeting held by artist Mostafa Kamel, the Syndicate’s head, who revealed what he described as “serious” violations within some of the Syndicate’s departments.

During the meeting, Kamel called for several officials to be referred to the competent investigative authorities, notably Ahmed Abu El-Majd, the Secretary-General, and Nadia Mostafa, a board member and former spokesperson of the Syndicate, to verify the integrity of administrative and financial procedures over the past period.

The Syndicate head emphasized in his speech that the organization is going through a phase that requires a “thorough cleansing,” saying: "Those who are not up to serving the people’s interests should leave… and no one plays the hero here except by their work with me."

These statements have sparked widespread questions about the nature of the violations and the role of the officials being investigated, amid demands from the general assembly members to enforce strict oversight over the Syndicate’s administrative performance.

Syndicate sources clarified that referring the case to the prosecution or official investigative authorities is part of a full transparency effort, ensuring no suspicion is left unchecked, especially after pointing out the existence of “unclear financial and administrative channels” that require urgent auditing.

Wide Support from Syndicate Members

Several Syndicate members welcomed the head’s decisions, affirming that the move is necessary to restore musicians’ trust, protect the Syndicate’s resources, and ensure all decisions are made solely in the public interest.

Some members of the artistic community see the current developments as potentially marking the beginning of a new restructuring phase within the Syndicate, with the coming months possibly bringing extensive changes in positions and policies, should any violations or negligence in managing previous files be confirmed.
