A shocking incident occurred in the Lebanese town of Sfar, where masked attackers opened fire on a man who worked as a car mechanic and his wife inside their home, in front of their young child, killing them instantly.
Local media reported that the attackers were from the wife’s family, who had opposed her marriage from the beginning.
Despite the family’s objections, the couple had fled to get married in secret according to a social custom known as "Khatifeh."
Even after three years of marriage and having a child, this period was not enough to protect them from the tragedy, highlighting the impact of certain customs on individuals’ freedom to make life decisions.
