Priscilla Timmons, 38, woke up from a coma at Memorial West Hospital in Florida after an unexpected encounter with a Golden Retriever dog named Scrunchie
Timmons had been in the intensive care unit after suffering a massive pulmonary embolism that led to three cardiac arrests requiring 41 minutes of resuscitation before the medical team was able to restore her heartbeat
Despite the severity of her condition and the threat to her life, she did not lose hope, as she could hear her family praying for her, though she was unable to open her eyes or move
A relative requested that a dog be brought to her bedside, and as soon as she felt its paw, she was able to move her fingers and lift her hand, which Timmons described as a miracle
Timmons’ chance of survival was less than 10%
Dr. Daniel Mayer, head of the intensive care unit at Memorial Healthcare System, said: “Most of the time, ICUs or resuscitation teams do not continue after several rounds of resuscitation, but we were patient and persistent. One or two of us said, ‘Are you sure you don’t want to stop?’ But something pushed us to continue
