"The Most Beautiful Boy in the World"

His career took off in 1971 when Italian director Luchino Visconti cast him as Tadzio in the film Death in Venice, adapted from Thomas Mann’s novel. He gained immense fame for this role at just fifteen years old, so much so that Visconti dubbed him "The Most Beautiful Boy in the World."

Despite his early fame, Andersen faced significant psychological challenges and suffered the loss of his infant son. Nevertheless, he continued his artistic work in cinema, theater, and music, with his last appearance in the film Midsommar in 2019.

Public interest in his story resurfaced with the 2021 documentary The Most Beautiful Boy in the World, which highlighted the struggles he faced due to early fame and the pressures of aesthetic perfection. Friends described his life as a reflection of an industry that imposes harsh standards of perfection on young people.
