Syrian singer Mayada Al-Hanawi was struck with grief over the death of her brother, the music researcher Othman Hanawi, who passed away after a battle with illness, leaving behind a legacy of notable achievements and distinguished work.

Syrian artist Qasim Malho announced the news on his Facebook account, sharing a photo of the late Othman and praying for his mercy and forgiveness, writing: “Othman Hanawi has passed away after a struggle with illness. Pray for him. May God have mercy on him and forgive him. There is no power nor strength except through God.”

The Syrian Artists Syndicate offered its condolences to Mayada Al-Hanawi, stating: “Our heartfelt condolences to our esteemed colleague, the talented artist Mayada Al-Hanawi, on the passing of her brother, music researcher Othman Hanawi. Indeed, to God we belong and to Him we shall return.”

This past summer, Mayada Al-Hanawi performed a public concert on the South Stage as part of the 39th Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts in Jordan.

The Syrian star presented a distinguished selection of her classic and recent songs, delighting the audience, who joined in singing along, applauding warmly, and praising her powerful performance and melodious voice.
